SCHOOL AND HOME COMMUNICATION
School Based Communication
School Newsletters
Newsletters are published at the end of each month and sometimes more often. They are posted on the website and students make note of the newsletter in their planners for parents to see. Newsletters can be sent home with the “youngest” or “only” child. Each year, the last newsletter in May contains all the important dates for the following school year, such as professional development days, holidays, and report card deadlines.
Monthly Calendar
At the beginning of each month a calendar of school-wide events is compiled, posted on the website and sent home by request.
Safety Alert
Student safety is of utmost importance in our school district. From time to time incidents involving a “stranger” approaching or chasing a student in the School District is reported to our District Office by the RCMP. To inform students and parents of potential danger, the School District faxes out a “Safety Alert’ to all schools. Our school, in turn, sends home a “Safety Alert” printed, numbered and dated with all students.
Classroom Based Communication
Student Planners and Homework Booklets
Students in all classes have an opportunity to purchase student planners at the beginning of each year. Students and teachers use the planner to note important events, assignments and homework. At the beginning of each school year, classroom teachers inform parents how the student planner, and in some classes, homework booklets, are used.
Classroom Teacher Communication
Classroom teachers at McNeely use a variety of ways to communicate with parents including notices, calendars, newsletters, etc. Teachers outline their expectations and routines to parents at the beginning of each school year. Teachers can be contacted at any time of the school year by phoning the school office and arranging a time to meet.
Parent Communication
Parent Notice Board
There is a bulletin board in front foyer near the front office. Notices and information of interest to parents are posted on this board.
Communication from Home
We will do our best to communicate with you. Please let us know if there are pieces of information you would like to receive that we have not yet thought to communicate. We also encourage you to do your best to communicate with us. We know that students are the most successful when parents and teachers stay in close communication. Here are some ways that you can help us:
- Have all school forms completed fully and return to the school as quickly as possible.
- Notify the school of any changes in information – phone numbers, address, cell phone, emergency contact information, etc.
- Contact your child’s teacher if you have information that would help them
- If you have suggestions or questions, please discuss these with us.
Addressing Concerns
We sincerely invite you to share your thoughts and concerns with us. Through collaboration and consensus building we strive to make McNeely the best possible school.
From time to time concerns arise which can be resolved through discussion. At McNeely we welcome opportunities to engage in discussions to provide clarity and information as well as to receive constructive feedback to make us more effective in educating your children. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have a concern. The Richmond School District has established a series of steps as guidelines for addressing concerns. Most problems are readily resolved at the source. It is logical and effective to seek solutions at the nearest possible level to the source of the concern. However, if satisfaction is not achieved, participants may then wish to proceed to the next step.
Steps in Addressing Concerns –
- Discussion with the teacher
- Discussion with the School Administrator
- Discussion with individual district support personnel, the Associate Superintendent, Ms. Nancy Brennan
- Discussion with the Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Monica Pamer
- Discussion with individual Trustees or submission of the concern in writing to the Board of School Trustees
