VOLUNTEERS IN THE SCHOOL
We welcome and appreciate volunteers at Kathleen McNeely Elementary School. Volunteers may be parents, grandparents or members of the community wishing to support the school. They are an integral part of the school system and are relied upon on many occasions. We value the wide variety of skills and knowledge shared with the school. Thank you for giving your time and energy to our school.
Our Aim Is to:
- Provide you with meaningful tasks that will be of maximum benefit to students.
- Get to know you and your special skills and talents so that your time and effort can be used to its greatest potential.
- Create a comfortable atmosphere that builds a positive rapport with staff and students.
What is a Volunteer?
- A volunteer works in the school at the invitation of a teacher or staff member and is under his or her supervision.
- A volunteer assists teachers and students in various school activities without financial compensation and will receive respect, appreciation and a sense of satisfaction from making a significant contribution to the school community.
- A volunteer provides support services to the school that are not intended to be provided by support staff.
- A volunteer or parent helper is assigned tasks and responsibilities according to the individual’s abilities and interests.
- A volunteer or parent helper adheres to the school’s policies, procedures and practices with special attention to the issues of confidentiality and the code of ethics.
Code of Ethics for Volunteers:
- The volunteer will respect the professional role of the teacher. They will speak and act toward students and adults with respect and dignity, always mindful of their individual rights and sensitivities.
- The volunteer will be discreet and protect the confidentiality of students, teachers, staff and parents.
- The volunteer will value and honor the relationship and trust established with students and adults at the school.
- The volunteer will support the activities of the class and respect the instructional and learning time of students.
General Guidelines for Parent Helpers:
- Name Tags: Please sign in at the office upon arrival. Visitor identification badges are to be worn while at school.
- Dress Code: Adhere to the Kathleen McNeely Elementary dress code outlined in this document.
- Attendance: Be punctual; if unable to attend, please notify the school.
- Problems, concerns or questions: Communicate directly to the teacher you assist.
- Injury: if personal injury occurs while helping in school, report immediately to the school administration.
- Smoking: Smoking is prohibited on school property and during school sponsored activities.
