Volunteering
Like any high school student, Incentive Grade 8, 9 and 10 students volunteer in the community for a minimum of 10, 20 or 30 hours respectively. This is now a provincial ministry of education requirement but Incentive has been requiring this for over 25 years as part of the philosophy that students learn to give back to the community.
3rd World Child Support
Incentive's student council look after a young teenager in Africa under the World Vision program. Her name is Jackline. She is from Uganda. She is in grade 4. She likes playing ball games and her favourite colour is red.
Sun Run
It is a tradition for Incentive students to organize themselves and volunteer their time in the annual Vancouver Sun Run by cutting up fruit and helping at the gear check. A busload of Incentive students takes part each year.
Fundraising
Every year, Incentive runs the Incentive Annual Boat Races to raise money for the BC Children's Hospital. For the past 10 years, Incentive families have raised over $1000 per year which has been forwarded to the BC Children's Hospital Foundation. In the spirit of challenge and teamwork that is fostered at Incentive, students design and build cardboard boats and race them in the pool at Watermania. In the early years at MacNeill, a large 50 foot tank was built by the teachers and students and filled by the Richmond Fire department for this activity. (pictures below)
