Intervention Questions:

Ask yourself the following questions when planning, implementing, and evaluating an activity done with a learner who is deafblind. If you keep these things in mind, you will be successful in the activity.

1.  How do we ensure that the individual is an active learner throughout the activity?
        ( Do With, Not For )

2.  How do we adapt the activity to meet the learner’s sensory needs: Touch / Taste/ Smell / Movement / Vision / Hearing

3.  How does the learner know what is happening in the present and the future? (Anticipation)

4.  What’s in this activity for the learner? (Motivation)

5.  How do we ensure that the learner has sufficient information? (Receptive Communication)

6.  Have we built in opportunities for the learner to be expressive? (Expressive Communication)

7.  How does the learner know what the effects of his/her actions are on the environment?       (Confirmation / Feedback)

8.  How do we encourage the learner to think for her/himself? (Problem Solving & Concept        Development)

9.  What opportunities does the learner have to expand their social connections? (Social & Emotional Development)

10. Have the learner’s interests been acknowledged and choices honoured? (Positive Self Concept)
